Evaluation is the key - 01/03/07
Highly respected Dr Andrew Miles has agreed to work with us on an external evaluation of Sonic [db] looking at how far the project brings about improvements in behaviours which affect ‘good order’ in prisons and can be linked to the propensity to reoffend and how it might facilitate progression routes into training or employment. He has recently complete a 12 month study of research feasibility issues in the sector which followed a number of arts interventions in prisons and resettlement and is co-editor of ‘Doing the Arts Justice: A Review of Research Literature, Practice and Theory’. This work was jointly commissioned by Arts Council England, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Offenders’ Learning and Skills Unit at the Department of Education and Skills, as core partners in the Research into Arts and Criminal Justice Think Tank (REACTT).
The Sonic [db] evaluation will further inform the work of REACTT and funding has been applied for from Arts Council England, West Midlands to devleop this important element.
